Ahead of the Osun State governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a major security deployment plan aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and orderly electoral process.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, disclosed that the Force will deploy a minimum of four police officers to each polling unit across the state to guarantee adequate protection for voters, election officials, and other stakeholders.
The police chief assured residents of Osun State that the security architecture for the election had been carefully designed to prevent violence, intimidation, and disruption before, during, and after the exercise.
According to the report, the identities of some senior security officers assigned for the election would be withheld until election day as part of operational strategy to maintain effectiveness and prevent possible compromises.
The IGP also warned politicians and their supporters against acts capable of undermining the democratic process, stressing that security personnel would remain neutral while ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their constitutional right without fear.
The deployment comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State as major political parties intensify campaigns and mobilization ahead of the crucial governorship contest.
Security experts have consistently emphasized that adequate policing, professionalism, and respect for electoral rules remain critical factors in guaranteeing peaceful elections and strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
With the police promising a robust security presence, attention now shifts to the conduct of all political actors and citizens as Osun prepares for another decisive electoral moment.
