…When security becomes the major concern
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike delivered a lecture at the 36th Convocation of the University of Port Harcourt on “‘Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria,’ emphasizing national progress and governance.”
Yet, beyond the speech itself, many observers could not help but notice the overwhelming security presence surrounding the event. It raises a troubling question: Have we become so accustomed to insecurity that extraordinary security arrangements now seem normal?
Universities are supposed to be centres of learning, ideas, and free exchange. When security deployments become this intense, it reminds us of the urgent need to build a safer and more secure Nigeria for everyone.
Leadership and infrastructure are important. So too is the security that allows citizens to live, learn, work, and gather without fear.
