Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing its vast natural gas resources as a catalyst for industrialisation, economic growth, and energy security across Africa.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 Infra for Africa Forum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, highlighted Nigeria’s strategic plan to place domestic gas utilisation at the heart of its energy transformation agenda.
The Minister emphasized that Nigeria is focused on deploying gas resources to support electricity generation, boost industrial production, expand fertilizer manufacturing, promote cleaner cooking solutions, and drive transportation development.
He noted that Nigeria’s gas strategy extends beyond national borders, with major regional initiatives such as the West African Gas Pipeline and the Nigeria–Morocco Gas Pipeline positioned as key projects to strengthen energy cooperation and economic integration across the continent.
The Federal Government maintained that gas remains central to Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a leading industrial hub in Africa, creating jobs, attracting investment, and providing sustainable energy solutions for millions of people.
With one of the largest gas reserves in Africa, Nigeria continues to position natural gas as a transition fuel capable of powering industries while supporting broader continental development goals.
