Young Voices Drive Conversations on Inclusive Healthcare, Innovation and Health Equity
Young Nigerians from diverse backgrounds have taken part in a major health dialogue aimed at shaping Africa’s future healthcare priorities, with the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasising the importance of giving young people a seat at the decision-making table.
The engagement brought together youths from across Nigeria, including persons with hearing impairment, members of displaced communities, young health workers, students, and other emerging leaders in the health sector.
According to the WHO Nigeria, the voices, experiences, and ideas shared during the gathering demonstrated the critical role young people play in designing health systems that respond to the realities of communities.
“When young people are given a seat at the table, they protect the future of health,” WHO stated, highlighting the need for inclusive participation in health planning and policy development.
The event provided a platform for young Nigerians to share personal experiences, identify challenges affecting healthcare access, and propose innovative solutions capable of strengthening health outcomes across Africa.
Participants discussed issues affecting vulnerable populations, including barriers faced by persons living with disabilities, the health needs of displaced communities, opportunities for young health professionals, and the importance of youth involvement in public health decision-making.
Health experts have continued to stress that Africa’s youthful population represents a major resource in addressing the continent’s health challenges, particularly through innovation, technology, advocacy, and community-based interventions.
The WHO said the contributions from Nigerian youths would help inform broader conversations on Africa’s health priorities and reinforce the need for health systems that are people-centred, inclusive, and responsive.
The engagement reflects growing global recognition that young people should not only be beneficiaries of health policies but also active partners in designing and implementing solutions for healthier communities.
