… Unlock $187m investment opportunities, 8,000 jobs
Awka, Anambra State – The Federal Government and the Anambra State Government have commenced moves to deepen collaboration on rural electrification and renewable energy deployment as part of efforts to accelerate economic growth, improve electricity access, and empower underserved communities.
The initiative followed a meeting between the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, where both parties explored opportunities for expanding electricity infrastructure across the state.
During the engagement, the REA highlighted its interventions in Anambra, including the deployment of 8.5 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity, aimed at improving power supply in communities currently underserved by the national grid.
The agency projected that increased electricity access in rural and semi-urban areas of Anambra could unlock investment opportunities estimated at $187 million and create more than 8,000 jobs across different sectors of the economy.
The expansion of clean and reliable energy infrastructure is expected to support small and medium-scale businesses, enhance agricultural productivity, improve healthcare and education services, and promote digital inclusion in rural communities.
The collaboration aligns with the Federal Government’s broader energy transition and economic development agenda, which prioritises renewable energy solutions, increased electricity coverage, and private sector participation in Nigeria’s power sector.
The REA and Anambra State Government expressed commitment to strengthening partnerships that will ensure more communities benefit from sustainable electricity solutions while creating new opportunities for economic empowerment and job creation.
The initiative is also expected to complement ongoing efforts by the administration of Governor Soludo to promote industrialisation, technology-driven development, and improved living standards across Anambra State.
