Amb. Dr. Metchie Inducted as Fellow of IIPS

…Another Feather in a Distinguished Security Career

AWC CURRENT AFFAIRS DESK, AUGUST 2026

Nigeria — Ambassador Dr. John Metchie has been inducted as a Fellow of the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS), in recognition of his contributions to security advocacy, professional development and the advancement of Nigeria’s security architecture.

At the ceremony, Dr. Metchie was inducted alongside other Fellows, marking another significant milestone in a career devoted to security awareness, capacity building and national service.

The International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS) is a Nigerian-based professional security training and certification organisation established in 2006. The institute says its mission includes developing and maintaining training standards that improve the quality of professional security practice, while providing training, certification, consultancy and capacity development for security professionals. It is headquartered in Lagos, and has built professional links extending beyond Nigeria.

Dr. Metchie has distinguished himself as a security expert, consultant and advocate, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, violent crime and community-based security. His advocacy has also focused strongly on the development of the Nigerian Forest Security Service, with emphasis on building the manpower and operational capacity required to secure Nigeria’s vast forested and unmanned territories from exploitation by terrorists, bandits and other criminal networks.

His philosophy is anchored on a simple but important proposition: Nigeria cannot afford to leave large portions of its territory without effective security presence. Forests and other difficult-to-access areas must become part of the country’s wider security architecture rather than safe havens for non-state actors.

Through advocacy, training, public engagement and personal commitment, Dr. Metchie has continued to contribute to national security discourse and capacity building. His efforts, particularly his willingness to commit personal resources to causes he believes advance Nigeria’s security interests, have earned him recognition in different circles.

The fellowship therefore comes as more than another professional title. It is an acknowledgement of a sustained commitment to a safer Nigeria and to strengthening the human capacity required to achieve it.

The African Writers Centre (AWC) warmly congratulates Ambassador Dr. John Metchie on this well-deserved recognition. We celebrate not only the new feather added to his already decorated cap, but also the spirit of patriotism, selflessness and service that continues to define his contribution to society, Nigeria and the international peace community.

Congratulations, Ambassador Dr. John Metchie, FIIPS. May the new honour inspire even greater service to humanity and the nation.
