Lagos, Nigeria – Six outstanding students have emerged winners of the Indian Vegetarian and Vegan UK Essay Competition, organised in partnership with Chi Empathy Towards Animals Organization, following an essay contest that encouraged young people to explore the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of vegetarian living.

The competition, themed “Benefits of a Vegetarian Diet,” attracted entries from students across Lagos State, who demonstrated their understanding of healthy nutrition, compassion for animals, and sustainable lifestyles through well-researched and thought-provoking essays.

The winners were selected in two age categories.

In the 11–14 years category, the winners are Tabunmi Fareedah, Lawal Falias, and Obunuwe Emmanuel.

In the 15–18 years category, Shumaya Idris, Hamod Yunusa Oluwanifemi, and Ale Precious emerged as the top performers.

The organisers said the competition was designed not only to improve students’ writing and critical thinking skills but also to raise awareness about healthy eating habits, environmental sustainability, and empathy towards animals.

An award ceremony was held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Distinct Comprehensive College, Egan-Igando, Lagos, where the winners received recognition for their outstanding essays. Other participants were also presented with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their efforts and participation.

Speaking at the event, the organisers commended all participating students for their enthusiasm and intellectual contributions, noting that the quality of submissions reflected a growing interest among young Nigerians in issues relating to nutrition, environmental responsibility, and animal welfare.

They expressed optimism that initiatives of this nature would continue to inspire young people to become advocates for healthier lifestyles and more compassionate communities.

The partnership between Indian Vegetarian and Vegan UK and Chi Empathy Towards Animals Organization forms part of ongoing efforts to promote values of kindness, healthy living, and environmental consciousness through education and youth engagement.
