Abuja, April 22, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, leading to the exit of two key ministers from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as part of efforts to strengthen governance and policy delivery.
Key Changes in the Cabinet
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume:
Wale Edun has exited his role as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy
Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to take over the position.
In the housing sector:
Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has also left the cabinet
Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development
Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending further formalities.
The Presidency directed that all handover processes be completed by April 23, 2026, underscoring the urgency of the transition.
Akume stated that the changes are aimed at:
Enhancing cohesion and synergy in governance.
Strengthening economic management.
Accelerating delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring Nigerians that efforts to reinvigorate governance will continue.
The reshuffle, though limited in scope, signals a targeted recalibration of key economic and housing portfolios, with expectations of improved performance and policy execution.
The cabinet adjustment reflects President Tinubu’s ongoing effort to fine-tune his administration, placing emphasis on economic coordination and effective service delivery.
