Abuja, March 27, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unity, discipline, and renewed commitment within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as he addressed delegates at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held at Eagle Square.
Speaking under the theme “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the President described the convention as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy, urging members to place collective interest above personal ambition.
Call for Party Unity and Internal Discipline
President Tinubu emphasized that the APC’s greatest strength lies in its unity, warning that internal divisions, ego, and unchecked ambition could weaken the party more than electoral defeats.
“Our party must send a clear message that we are strong, united, and ready for the future,” he said.
He reiterated that the APC was founded not merely as a political platform for electoral victories but as a vehicle for national transformation and inclusive governance.
Respect for Democracy and Opposition
The President dismissed claims that the ruling party seeks to establish a one-party state, stressing the importance of a vibrant opposition in strengthening democracy.
He defended the Electoral Act 2026, noting that it underwent due legislative scrutiny and reflects Nigeria’s commitment to credible elections and the rule of law.
Economic Reforms and Progress
Highlighting achievements under his administration, Tinubu pointed to progress in:
Infrastructure development, including major road projects
Modernisation of seaports and airports
Fiscal and tax reforms
Strengthening of national security
He added that economic indicators are improving, citing declining inflation, increased investor confidence, and sustained growth in trade and GDP.
The President acknowledged ongoing challenges in the power sector, revealing plans for a Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO) to boost electricity supply.
Focus on Youth and Women Inclusion
In a direct appeal, Tinubu called for greater inclusion of young people and women in governance and party leadership.
“You are not only the future of Nigeria; you are our hope,” he told youths, while urging the party to create more opportunities for women to lead and shape policy.
Appeal for Peaceful Conduct
The President urged delegates, aspirants, and stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the convention, emphasizing that the party’s unity must prevail over individual contests.
Tributes and Acknowledgements
Tinubu paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari and other departed party leaders, acknowledging their role in building the APC.
He also commended key figures involved in organizing the convention, including:
Aminu Bello Masari
Anyim Pius Anyim
Dapo Abiodun
Looking ahead, the President concluded by urging newly elected party officials to lead with integrity, vision, and humility, noting that the future of both the APC and Nigeria’s democracy depends on responsible leadership.
He also highlighted the party’s growing influence, citing the influx of new members and political leaders into the APC as evidence of public confidence in its direction.
The APC convention served as both a show of strength and a call for internal cohesion, with President Tinubu positioning unity, reform, and inclusive leadership as critical to sustaining the party’s dominance ahead of future electoral contests.
