The Federal Government has intensified efforts to transform Nigeria’s energy sector as the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and the Ministry of Power moved to strengthen strategic collaboration on national energy priorities.
At a high-level engagement in Abuja, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, led a delegation to meet with the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, with discussions centred on aligning policies, research, and implementation frameworks to accelerate sustainable energy development.
Both sides explored practical ways to integrate ECN’s research outputs into national power infrastructure through joint programmes, shared resources, and coordinated implementation, with particular emphasis on renewable energy solutions. The meeting underscored the importance of translating policy and research into tangible power generation and delivery outcomes.
Chief Adelabu reaffirmed the Ministry of Power’s commitment to sustained partnerships with the ECN, highlighting hydroelectric power generation and other strategic energy initiatives as critical pillars in the drive to stabilise and expand Nigeria’s electricity supply.
In his briefing, Dr. Abdullahi updated the Minister on key ECN programmes, including the Renewed Hope Solarization Programme, the National Energy Master Plan, and the National Energy Policy. He reiterated the Commission’s resolve to support national development by providing data-driven solutions, innovation, and long-term planning tools for the energy sector.
The renewed collaboration signals a coordinated push to strengthen Nigeria’s energy mix, expand renewable capacity, and position the power sector as a catalyst for economic growth, industrialisation, and improved quality of life for Nigerians.
