Abuja — The Renewed Hope Grassroot Movement (RHGM) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the Electricity Bill into law, describing the move as a landmark reform that will transform Nigeria’s power sector and accelerate economic growth.
In a press statement issued from its national headquarters in Abuja, the National Coordinator of RHGM, Isaac Chigozie Udeh, said the new legislation removes electricity from the Exclusive Legislative List, granting states authority over electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. According to the group, the reform enables states to establish independent electricity markets, create regulatory frameworks, and license private investors without federal bottlenecks.
RHGM noted that the decentralisation of power sector governance will fast-track industrialisation, attract investments, create employment opportunities, and improve electricity supply nationwide, particularly in states prepared to leverage the new legal framework.
The group also commended the administration’s broader reform agenda, including economic restructuring and security interventions, stating that the Electricity Act reflects a government focused on structural solutions. It urged state governments and private sector stakeholders to take advantage of the new framework to drive innovation and collaboration in Nigeria’s energy sector.
RHGM reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and communicating the administration’s policies at the grassroots, pledging continued advocacy in support of what it described as people-oriented reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
