Abuja, 9 February 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, officially opened the Second Edition of the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference at the State House, Abuja, underscoring the pivotal role of federal-state collaboration in driving Nigeria’s economic transformation.
In his address, President Tinubu commended Vice President Kashim Shettima and the NEC leadership for sustaining the platform as a cornerstone of fiscal federalism, policy coordination, and strategic dialogue across national and subnational governments.
The conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030,” aims to move Nigeria from recovery to inclusive and resilient growth. The President highlighted structural challenges such as macroeconomic imbalances, infrastructure deficits, unemployment, poverty, and climate vulnerabilities but emphasized that Nigerians’ resilience and creativity are key to overcoming these obstacles.
President Tinubu outlined the administration’s achievements over the past months, including:
Improved FAAC allocations to states and local governments for salaries, infrastructure, and social service delivery.
Strengthened macroeconomic stability through enhanced revenue performance, public financial management, and fiscal coordination.
Infrastructure development in transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing, and irrigation as a catalyst for inclusive growth.
Expanded social investment and human capital programmes targeting vulnerable households, youth, women, and small businesses.
Implementation of the Renewed Hope Ward Development Project, fostering grassroots inclusion.
Looking ahead, the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030 was described as evidence-based and anchored on economic diversification, human capital development, private sector-led growth, subnational competitiveness, and climate resilience. Success will rely heavily on effective implementation at the state and local government levels.
President Tinubu called for data-driven decision-making, peer learning among states, and innovative financing models to translate resolutions into tangible results. He emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity is a strength, and inclusive growth at all levels strengthens national stability and ensures sustainable development for future generations.
On this note, President Tinubu officially declared the Second NEC Conference open, urging participants to seize the historic opportunity to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda for a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Nigeria.
