The Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), Major General EF Oyinlola, has called on communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State to sustain cooperation and dialogue in order to preserve the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the area.
Major General Oyinlola made the call during a stakeholders’ engagement organised by JTF OPEP Sector 5 on February 5, 2026. The meeting was convened to consolidate recent security gains recorded during the yuletide period and to set the tone for a peaceful farming season.
Addressing traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders, the JTF Commander stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved through military efforts alone, but requires continuous community participation, mutual trust, and open communication among all groups.
He noted that the calm witnessed in recent months is the result of collective commitment and urged residents to remain vigilant, promptly share credible information with security agencies, and resist actions capable of undermining harmony.
Participants at the engagement commended the improved security situation in Bokkos and expressed appreciation for the support of Defence and Army Headquarters, particularly the provision of fertilisers aimed at encouraging agricultural productivity and supporting livelihoods.
Stakeholders also recommended the establishment of additional reconciliation and dialogue platforms to deepen trust, promote peaceful coexistence, and address grievances before they escalate into conflict.
The engagement reaffirmed the JTF’s emphasis on community partnership as a critical pillar for sustaining peace, boosting development, and ensuring a stable environment for farming and economic activities in Plateau State.
