Security–Economy Nexus in Focus as Finance, Defence Chiefs Deepen Strategic Ties

Nigeria’s drive for stability and growth received a boost as senior officials in the finance and defence sectors held a high-level working session aimed at strengthening collaboration between security operations and economic policy.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance, brought together the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, and the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher G. Musa (Rtd), in what officials described as a strategic engagement to align national security priorities with fiscal planning.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite commended the Defence Minister for his leadership and contributions to safeguarding the nation, noting that effective security remains a critical enabler of economic activity. She stressed that peace and stability provide the foundation upon which citizens can live productively and businesses can operate, invest, and expand with confidence.

According to her, fiscal policies will continue to offer robust support to security institutions, emphasizing that national development and economic prosperity are inseparable from a secure environment. “A stable nation is the bedrock of sustainable growth,” she noted, adding that coordinated action across government remains essential.

The working session underscored the growing recognition of the security–economy nexus, with both ministries reaffirming the need for continuous collaboration to ensure that defence efforts are adequately resourced and aligned with broader economic objectives.

Analysts say such engagements reflect a pragmatic approach to governance, where security investment is viewed not only as a defence imperative but also as a strategic driver of investor confidence, social cohesion, and long-term national prosperity.
