Abuja – Nigeria has taken another decisive step toward strengthening its digital economy and global technology partnerships as the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) hosted a high-level delegation from the Africa Diaspora Corporation (ADC) in Abuja.

The strategic engagement, officials said, is aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s digital capacity, skills development and innovation ecosystem in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises technology as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation and global competitiveness.

Bridging Diaspora Expertise with Local Innovation

Welcoming the delegation, the NITDA DG stated the importance of leveraging African diaspora expertise, capital and networks to strengthen Nigeria’s technology landscape.

“Nigeria’s digital transformation cannot be achieved in isolation,” the DG said. “Partnerships like this enable us to tap into global best practices, attract investment and position Nigeria as Africa’s leading digital economy.”

He noted that the collaboration aligns with NITDA’s mandate to promote digital literacy, indigenous innovation, cybersecurity resilience and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data governance.

Diaspora as a Strategic Asset

The Africa Diaspora Corporation (ADC) delegation highlighted the growing interest of African professionals and investors in the diaspora to support Nigeria’s tech ambitions through knowledge transfer, startup funding, skills exchange programmes and digital infrastructure support.

According to ADC representatives, Nigeria’s youthful population and expanding digital market present unmatched opportunities for innovation-driven growth if properly harnessed.

Driving the Renewed Hope Digital Vision

The engagement forms part of broader federal efforts to digitise governance, strengthen ICT regulation, boost tech startups and expand broadband penetration, all key pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Analysts say strategic alliances with diaspora-led organisations could help Nigeria:

  • Scale digital skills training for youths
  • Attract foreign direct investment into tech hubs
  • Strengthen public–private partnerships
  • Enhance Nigeria’s global digital competitiveness

Looking Ahead

Both parties agreed to explore structured collaboration frameworks, including pilot projects, policy support initiatives and capacity-building programmes, with a view to delivering measurable outcomes for Nigeria’s digital economy.

As Nigeria pushes to diversify away from oil dependency, engagements like this signal a clear shift toward technology-driven development, reinforcing the government’s message that digital transformation is central to national renewal.

With diaspora-backed partnerships gaining momentum, Nigeria’s tech future appears increasingly anchored on global collaboration, local talent and strategic policy leadership.
