JAMB EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR ACCEPTANCE OF ADMISSION OFFERS FROM 2021 TO SEPTEMBER 30

AWC NEWS & CURRENT AFFAIRS DESK, AUGUST 22026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for candidates offered admission from 2021 to date to either accept or reject their admission offers.

The new deadline is Wednesday, September 30, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Monday, August 31, 2026.

According to the Board, the extension represents a final opportunity for all candidates with outstanding admission offers—whether regular or through CUIIA—to formally indicate whether they accept or reject such offers.

Candidates who accept their admission will be able to proceed with the process of printing and obtaining their admission letters, while those who reject their offers will have their admission status reverted to “Not Admitted”, allowing JAMB to update its records accordingly.

The Board also clarified that candidates who are no longer studying in the institutions where the admission was originally offered, or who are now pursuing programmes different from those for which they were admitted, may first accept the outstanding admission and subsequently apply for the appropriate correction or deletion of the admission.

Similarly, candidates currently pursuing a second degree but still having an earlier admission offer that remains unaccepted may reject the previous offer and continue with their current programme.

JAMB further assured candidates who have received admission in the ongoing 2026 admission exercise but still have previous admission offers pending that rejecting the earlier admission would have no adverse effect whatsoever on their 2026 admission.

The Board said the extension was necessary to give affected candidates one final opportunity to clarify their admission status and enable it to maintain accurate, current and reliable national admission records.

JAMB, however, warned that there would be no further extension after the September 30 deadline.

At the expiration of the deadline, all outstanding admission offers from 2021 to date that have neither been accepted nor rejected will automatically be reverted to “Not Admitted” status and will remain so in the Board’s records.

Candidates are therefore strongly advised to act immediately and not wait until the final day, as failure to accept an admission offer within the stipulated period will render the offer invalid.
