The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) as part of efforts to strengthen regulation, attract fresh investments, and accelerate growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The assurance was given by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during a courtesy visit by the Authority Chief Executive (ACE) of NMDPRA, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed, alongside members of the Authority’s top management team, in Abuja.
Senator Lokpobiri congratulated Engr. Mohammed on his appointment, describing him as a seasoned oil and gas professional with over three decades of industry experience. He expressed confidence in the leadership of the new ACE, noting that effective regulation of the midstream and downstream segments is critical to boosting revenue, ensuring energy security, and restoring investor confidence.
The Minister assured the NMDPRA leadership of the government’s full support in strengthening the Authority’s regulatory mandate, stressing that a transparent, predictable, and efficient regulatory framework remains central to the administration’s energy reform agenda.
In his response, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed pledged that the Authority would proactively address regulatory bottlenecks and enhance operational efficiency across the sector. He said NMDPRA would prioritise policies and processes that create an enabling environment for private sector participation, encourage sustainable business growth, and support national economic objectives.
The engagement highlights ongoing efforts to align policy direction and regulatory execution in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, with a shared focus on investment attraction, improved compliance, and long-term sector stability.
