Abuja, Nigeria — March 27, 2026

Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, has taken centre stage as preparations reach a crescendo for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with top government officials, party leaders, and thousands of delegates already converging on the city.

In a statement shared via his official social media handle, Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared that “the stage is set” for what is widely regarded as a defining political moment for the ruling party. He emphasized that all logistical and organisational arrangements have been completed to ensure a successful convention.

The two-day convention, holding at Eagle Square, is themed around unity and consolidation, aligning with the administration’s broader “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The gathering is expected to draw over 8,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside diaspora representatives—marking a significant expansion in participation.

Party insiders describe the convention as more than a routine political exercise. It is positioned as a strategic platform to reinforce internal cohesion, elect key members of the National Working Committee, and set the direction for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senior government officials, including the President, Vice President, and National Assembly leadership, have already begun arriving at the venue, underscoring the high stakes and national significance of the event.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation had earlier highlighted the convention as a critical moment for reflection, consolidation, and forward planning, stressing its role in strengthening democratic values and aligning party processes with national development priorities.

President Tinubu, in his message, framed the convention as a collective effort to advance a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, calling on stakeholders to remain united in pursuit of the party’s vision.

With Abuja now firmly in the spotlight, political observers say the outcomes of the convention could shape not only the future of the APC but also Nigeria’s broader political landscape in the lead-up to 2027.
