The Federal Government has commenced construction work on the long-awaited 105-kilometre Maiduguri–Monguno Road, a critical infrastructure project widely seen as a major boost to mobility, security and economic revival in Northern Borno State.
The project has taken off with the initial 30-kilometre section, awarded at a cost of ₦21 billion, already showing visible progress as contractors have fully mobilised to site. Earthworks and other preliminary construction activities are underway, signalling renewed confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to rebuilding infrastructure in Nigeria’s conflict-affected North-East.
Supervised by the Minister of Works, Senator (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, CON, the road project forms a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises strategic infrastructure as a catalyst for national integration, security and economic growth.
When completed, the Maiduguri–Monguno Road is expected to significantly ease the movement of people and goods, strengthen security operations, and improve access to markets, healthcare and social services for communities along the corridor. The route is also crucial for military and humanitarian operations in the region, enhancing response time and operational efficiency.
Residents and stakeholders across Northern Borno have welcomed the development, describing the road as a long-overdue lifeline that will help unlock agricultural potential, stimulate trade, and restore socio-economic activities disrupted by years of insecurity.
With construction now visibly underway, the project stands as a strong statement of federal resolve to deliver tangible development to the North-East, reinforcing hopes that sustained investment in infrastructure will translate into lasting peace, prosperity and inclusive growth for Borno State and beyond.
