As Party Braces for 2027

In a strategic move to strengthen unity and fortify the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, December 25, 2025, inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation.
The inauguration, which took place in Lagos, underscores growing efforts by the party leadership to address internal disputes, manage competing interests and consolidate the APC’s political base nationwide.
Buni Chairs Strategic Committee
The committee is chaired by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, with Mr. Muiz Banire, former APC National Legal Adviser, serving as Member/Secretary.
Its membership cuts across key power blocs of the party, including governors, ministers, former governors and presidential aides — reflecting the seriousness attached to its mandate.
Powerful Line-Up

- Senator Adamu Aliero
- Governor Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum
- Governor Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Chairman, Progressive Governors’ Forum
- Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta)
- Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers)
- Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola
- Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle
- Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello
- SSA to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari
Mandate: Strategy, Inclusion, Stability
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and party leaders for the confidence reposed in the committee, pledging total dedication to its assignment.
According to him, the committee will embark on wide consultations and strategic engagements aimed at developing a productive, inclusive and result-oriented framework for conflict resolution and party mobilisation.
“We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with renewed hope,” Buni said.
He added that the committee would adopt proactive conflict-prevention mechanisms, carefully assess internal threats, and evolve lasting solutions to disputes that could weaken the party.
Buni also cautioned members against allowing personal interests or sentiments to override the collective goals of the APC.
Tinubu’s Call for Party Unity
The committee’s inauguration follows President Tinubu’s strong admonition at the 15th APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on December 19, 2025, at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, where he stressed the urgency of cohesion within the ruling party.
Tinubu reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals, broad-based participation and respect for diversity of opinion.
“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail,” the President said.
“We are bigger, larger and taller, but it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That’s the only way we can be resilient — we must be tolerant.”
2027 Calculations Begin
Political observers see the committee as a pre-2027 stabilisation mechanism, designed to manage internal rivalries, reconcile aggrieved factions and ensure the APC enters the next election cycle as a united force.
With internal party democracy, zoning debates and succession interests already simmering across states, the success or failure of the Buni-led committee may prove pivotal to the APC’s electoral fortunes in the years ahead.
For now, the message from the Presidency is clear: unity, inclusion and strategic discipline will be the backbone of the ruling party’s march toward 2027.
