Nigeria: Inter-Agency Ties Tightened to Combat Insecurity

-

ABUJA – In a strategic move to fortify Nigeria’s internal and external security buffers, the Federal Government has announced a reinforced partnership between the Ministry of Defence and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The high-level reinforcement was the focal point of a consultative meeting held on January 7, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters (Ship House) in Abuja. The talks featured the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), and the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR.
Key Pillars of the Collaboration
The dialogue underscored a shift toward a more integrated national security architecture. Key areas of focus included:
* Deepening Institutional Synergy: Streamlining communication channels between the military and paramilitary forces.
* Intensifying Operations: Scaling up active security maneuvers to address emerging threats across the federation.
* Fortifying Defense: Enhancing the protective capabilities of personnel and critical national infrastructure.
* Joint Effectiveness: Improving the success rate of combined tactical efforts to eradicate kidnapping, banditry, and oil theft.
A Unified Security Architecture
During the meeting, General Musa emphasized that inter-agency cooperation is no longer a choice but a fundamental pillar of Nigeria’s strategy. By aligning the specialized intelligence and grassroots reach of the NSCDC with the heavy defensive capabilities of the Ministry of Defence, the government aims to create a “no-escape” environment for criminal elements.
Professor Audi reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to deploy its full resources in support of this joint mission, noting that a unified front is the most effective deterrent against those threatening the nation’s peace.
“The commitment to inter-agency cooperation remains a key priority of the Federal Government. Together, we are building a more resilient and responsive security framework for every Nigerian.”

This renewed alliance marks a significant step in the administration’s broader goal of restoring absolute stability and protecting the country’s sovereign interests.
