The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, for their operational excellence, professionalism and steadfastness in maintaining security across their Area of Responsibility.
The commendation was given on Thursday, 8 January 2026, during an operational visit to frontline troops, where the Army Chief praised the Brigade’s discipline and dedication in confronting security challenges in parts of Niger State.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the troops to remain firm, vigilant and decisive in their operations, particularly against terrorist elements operating in Shiroro, Rijau and surrounding areas, while maintaining professionalism and respect for fundamental human rights in line with the United Nations Charter.
The COAS assured officers and soldiers of improved welfare, disclosing that he had been fully briefed on their operational and welfare challenges, especially in the areas of accommodation and critical support facilities needed to enhance the wellbeing of personnel and their families.
To this end, he directed the construction and renovation of essential facilities within the Brigade to boost morale, improve living conditions and strengthen operational effectiveness.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, the Army Chief encouraged the troops to remain resilient and focused, assuring them of the Army Headquarters’ continuous support in the collective effort to restore lasting peace and security within the region.
