The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to supporting the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, underscoring the importance of strong strategic partnerships in safeguarding national security.
The pledge was made on Monday, 5 January 2026, when the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters. During the engagement, the Army Chief stressed that collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the NDC remains vital to building a well-coordinated and forward-looking national security architecture.
Lieutenant General Shaibu highlighted the critical role of the NDC in training senior officers and civilian officials drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), noting that the institution serves as a cornerstone for strategic thinking, policy formulation and inter-agency cooperation. He commended ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernise the College’s curriculum, ensuring it remains responsive to Nigeria’s evolving and complex security challenges.
The COAS assured the NDC leadership of the Nigerian Army’s continued support in areas of training, doctrine development and institutional capacity building, adding that investment in strategic education is essential for addressing both present and future threats.
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed praised the COAS for his proactive and visionary leadership, describing the partnership between the Army and the NDC as crucial to the development of national defence capabilities. He emphasised the need for continuous curriculum review and innovation to keep pace with emerging security dynamics.
The NDC Commandant also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and other Service Chiefs for their sustained support to the College, noting that such backing has enhanced the institution’s ability to deliver high-quality strategic and defence education.
The visit reaffirmed the shared resolve of both institutions to strengthen strategic capacity, deepen inter-agency collaboration, and reinforce Nigeria’s national security framework through continuous learning and cooperation.
