AWC STATEHOUSE DESK

May 11, 2026 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the early hours of Monday to participate in the highly anticipated Africa Forward Summit taking place in Nairobi, Kenya.

The President’s aircraft touched down at approximately 12:18 a.m. local time, marking the commencement of Nigeria’s high-level participation in the continental gathering focused on Africa’s economic transformation and strategic development agenda.

President Tinubu was received on arrival by Musalia Mudavadi, alongside Kenya’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Isaac Parashina, senior Kenyan government officials, and members of Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Kenya.

The Africa Forward Summit is being co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, bringing together African Heads of State, policymakers, business executives, development institutions, and global stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the continent.

The summit is expected to focus on critical areas including regional economic integration, digital innovation, infrastructure financing, climate resilience, trade expansion, industrial growth, and sustainable development across Africa.

President Tinubu’s participation is seen as a reflection of Nigeria’s continued commitment to African unity, regional cooperation, and strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating economic growth and prosperity on the continent.

According to officials, the Nigerian leader is expected to engage in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with fellow African leaders, international partners, investors, and development institutions during the summit.

Analysts say the summit provides Nigeria with another strategic platform to strengthen diplomatic relations, attract investment opportunities, and reinforce its leadership role in shaping Africa’s economic and political future.

The President is also expected to promote the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda through discussions centered on trade, technology, agriculture, climate action, maritime development, and industrial innovation.

Accompanying President Tinubu on the trip are Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole; and Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani.

Others on the delegation include Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, Minister of State-designate for Foreign Affairs; Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Mrs Omotenioye Majekodunmi; and Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Amb. Ayodele Oke.

Observers note that the Africa Forward Summit comes at a time when African nations are increasingly seeking homegrown solutions to economic challenges, climate threats, technological transformation, and shifting global geopolitical realities.
