The Federal Government of Nigeria has intensified efforts to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing and expand international military cooperation as part of a renewed push for self-reliance in defence production.
Leading Nigeria’s delegation to the SAHA Expo Defence and Aerospace Exhibition 2026 in Istanbul, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, held strategic engagements with global defence manufacturers, technology firms, and military partners aimed at advancing technology transfer and joint production arrangements.
The high-level participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to repositioning its defence industry through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), with a focus on local content development, innovation in weapons systems, and enhanced operational readiness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to officials at the exhibition, discussions centred on partnerships that will enable Nigeria to scale up indigenous production of military hardware, reduce dependency on foreign procurement, and build sustainable capacity in aerospace and defence engineering.
The SAHA Expo, one of the world’s leading defence and aerospace exhibitions, brought together defence ministers, military chiefs, and industry leaders from multiple countries to showcase advanced technologies and explore collaborative opportunities.
Nigeria’s participation is expected to translate into expanded cooperation agreements, particularly in the areas of unmanned systems, armour production, intelligence technology, and maintenance of military platforms.
