Jalingo, February 27, 2026 — The Federal Government has intensified efforts to combat climate change and environmental degradation in northern Nigeria with the rollout of critical resilience assets under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) project in Taraba State.
The initiative, implemented by the Federal Government and supported by the World Bank, was officially flagged off in Jalingo as part of a broader strategy to restore degraded lands, protect vulnerable communities, and strengthen environmental sustainability across semi-arid regions.
The ACRESAL project aims to enhance agro-climatic resilience, particularly in dryland areas facing desertification, soil erosion, and declining agricultural productivity.
Distribution of Critical Assets
As part of the intervention, the Federal Government distributed a range of equipment and infrastructure to boost agricultural productivity and institutional capacity across Taraba’s local government areas. These include:
- 100 power tillers and 20 tractors allocated to all Local Government Areas to support mechanised farming.
- A swamp buggy and low-bed equipment to facilitate water channel maintenance and erosion control.
- 1,500 clean cookstoves to promote clean energy adoption and reduce deforestation.
- Solar-powered water pumps to enhance irrigation and water access.
- Hilux vehicles for relevant ministries and the Taraba State Environmental Protection Agency (TEPA).
- Renovated office buildings and provision of modern laboratory equipment to strengthen environmental monitoring and institutional efficiency.
Officials said the intervention would significantly improve sustainable land management, increase agricultural yields, and create economic opportunities for rural communities.
Boosting Livelihoods and Environmental Protection
The ACRESAL programme is designed to tackle the twin challenges of poverty and climate vulnerability by restoring degraded landscapes while improving the livelihoods of farmers and pastoral communities.
By investing in mechanised agriculture, renewable energy solutions, and institutional strengthening, the Federal Government aims to build long-term resilience against climate shocks, enhance food security, and promote sustainable natural resource management.
Stakeholders at the event described the intervention as a major step toward securing the future of dryland communities and accelerating climate adaptation efforts in Taraba State and beyond.
