At least 55 Ghanaians have been reported killed while fighting in the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war, according to statements confirmed by authorities and family sources.
Many of the deceased were believed to have travelled to Ukraine to join foreign fighting units after the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Their deaths reflect the dangerous realities facing foreign volunteers who have entered the conflict on both sides, often without formal military backup or clear protections.
The Government of Ghana has not officially released a complete casualty list, and efforts are reportedly underway to verify the identities of those killed and support affected families. The situation has raised concern among human rights and diplomatic circles about the risks civilians assume when joining foreign conflicts.
Authorities are urging citizens to avoid involvement in overseas wars and are working with international partners to provide updates and assistance to families of the deceased.
