The Federal Government and Nasarawa State have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening agricultural value chains as part of a broader strategy to boost food security, raise productivity, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s agri-food sector.
This assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, CON, ahead of the launch of the Value Chain Development Programme in the state.
The engagement highlighted ongoing collaboration between the Federal Government and Nasarawa State aimed at transforming agriculture from subsistence practice to a modern, market-driven sector. Discussions focused on improving access to inputs, strengthening processing and storage, linking farmers to markets, and reducing post-harvest losses across key agricultural commodities.
Minister Kyari noted that the partnership reflects the Federal Government’s determination to modernize Nigeria’s agricultural sector and ensure food security through coordinated interventions that deliver real impact at the grassroots. He stressed that value chain development remains critical to raising farmers’ incomes, attracting private investment, and creating jobs across rural communities.
Governor Sule welcomed the collaboration, reiterating Nasarawa State’s readiness to align with federal initiatives that enhance agricultural productivity and promote inclusive growth. He emphasized the state’s strategic position and agricultural potential, describing the Value Chain Development Programme as a catalyst for unlocking opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses, and investors.
Observers say the renewed FG–Nasarawa collaboration signals a practical shift toward integrated agricultural development, where production, processing, and marketing are treated as a single economic chain, capable of driving food sufficiency and strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
