VP Shettima to Declare the South East Vision 2050 Summit Open

AWC Economy & Investment Desk, February 1, 2026

Enugu will play host to a landmark regional development engagement as Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, is set to formally declare open the South East Vision 2050 (SEV2050) Regional Stakeholder Forum, scheduled to hold from February 3 to 6, 2026.

This follows a formal invitation extended to critical stakeholders by the South East Development Commission (SEDC), signaling the inclusive and multi-sectoral approach being adopted for the historic summit .

The SEV2050 Forum, themed “Charting a Shared Path to Sustainable Prosperity for South East Nigeria,” is designed to bring together political leaders, policymakers, traditional rulers, private sector players, civil society, development partners, youth, women, and diaspora stakeholders to co-create a long-term development roadmap for the South East region, aligned with national priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

At the heart of the initiative is the strategic leadership of Mr. Mark Okoye, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the SEDC, whose vision, coordination, and relentless drive have been central to the conceptualisation and planning of the SEV2050 process. Under his stewardship, the Commission has mobilised federal, state, and non-state operators, positioning the Forum as a critical platform for harmonising regional priorities and identifying implementation-ready interventions.

The success of the planning process has also been bolstered by the critical and technical contributions of highly experienced Executive Directors, including Chief Dr. Sylvester Okonkwo, alongside the entire SEDC management team. Their combined expertise has ensured that the Forum is grounded in evidence-based planning, technical rigor, and practical outcomes spanning infrastructure development, human capital advancement, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable prosperity.

Vice President Shettima’s confirmation to declare the summit open underscores the national importance of the SEV2050 initiative and reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to equitable regional development and strengthened federal-state collaboration.

With broad stakeholder participation and high-level federal backing, the South East Vision 2050 Forum is widely seen as a defining moment in shaping a coherent, inclusive, and forward-looking development future for South East Nigeria.
