Abuja, February 4, 2026 – Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, delivered a landmark speech at the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) Vision 2050 conference, outlining a bold roadmap to reposition the Southeast as Nigeria’s industrial and economic powerhouse.
Speaking to policymakers, stakeholders, and regional leaders, Soludo emphasized that the plan is not merely another development document. “We must focus on measurable impact, not ceremonial plans that gather dust on shelves,” he said, highlighting the need for a deadline-driven, results-oriented regional framework.
Governor Soludo proposed what he described as a Marshall Plan for the Southeast, drawing inspiration from the post-war reconstruction of Europe. The initiative aims to transform the region over the next five years, with a 25-year horizon for full socio-economic integration and industrial growth.
Key pillars of the plan include:
- Regional economic integration and infrastructure development to reduce transaction costs and connect all states efficiently.
- Security and rule of law to create a safe environment for investment and trade.
- Industrial and skills re-engineering, shifting from a trading-focused economy to manufacturing and production-driven growth.
Soludo stressed the critical role of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and the SEDC in coordinating state and regional efforts. “Governors must collaborate, pool resources, and strategically link infrastructure projects to accelerate development,” he said, citing examples of highways, rail lines, and power distribution projects.
On financing, the Governor highlighted the importance of federal and private sector contributions, supplemented by diaspora investment. “Over the next five years, the Southeast should receive full funding for this Marshall Plan,” he said, underlining the urgency of action.
Soludo also cautioned against unrealistic projections, insisting that targets should be practical, measurable, and focused on tangible outcomes. “Peace is our present; let us focus on delivery, not grandiose feel-good reports,” he remarked.
Concluding his address, Governor Soludo called on all stakeholders to adopt a “focus, focus, focus” approach, prioritizing regional public goods, industrialization, and infrastructural transformation to ensure that the Southeast achieves its Vision 2050 goals.
