President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, held high-level talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, culminating in the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and bilateral agreements aimed at deepening cooperation between both countries.
The signing ceremony marked a major milestone in Nigeria–Türkiye relations, reflecting a shared commitment to expanding diplomatic, economic and strategic ties. The agreements span key sectors expected to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, defence collaboration, infrastructure development and technology transfer.
Speaking through the symbolism of the agreements, the engagement underscored Nigeria’s renewed push for pragmatic partnerships that deliver measurable economic benefits, align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and position the country as a serious global partner. Türkiye, for its part, reaffirmed its interest in strengthening its footprint in Africa through Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy.
Observers note that the Ankara meeting elevates bilateral relations beyond diplomatic courtesies into concrete, performance-driven cooperation, with expectations that the MoUs will translate into increased foreign direct investment, job creation and enhanced industrial capacity for Nigeria.
The Tinubu–Erdoğan engagement also reinforces Nigeria’s strategic diplomacy under the current administration, leveraging international partnerships to drive growth, diversify the economy and improve national competitiveness on the global stage.
The signing ceremony took place at the Presidential Complex in Ankara and formed a key highlight of President Tinubu’s state visit to Türkiye.
