The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to restoring and sustaining lasting peace and security in Plateau State.
During a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, the COAS commended the state government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Army, describing Plateau as a strategic partner and the historic home of the Army’s Armoured Corps. He stressed that the Army remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property through the professional deployment of troops and critical resources.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu assured the governor that the Nigerian Army would continue to work closely with state authorities to address security challenges and ensure stability across the state. In response, Governor Mutfwang pledged the full cooperation of the Plateau State Government, reaffirming its commitment to sustained collaboration with the military to achieve enduring peace.
As part of the visit, the COAS also met with the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, underscoring the importance of strong civil-military relations and the vital role of traditional institutions in peacebuilding efforts. Both parties emphasized that inclusive engagement with community leaders remains essential to fostering trust and preventing conflict.
The visit highlighted a shared resolve between the Nigerian Army, the Plateau State Government, and traditional authorities to deepen cooperation and secure a peaceful, stable future for the people of Plateau State.
