Nigeria’s non-oil export sector recorded its strongest performance yet in 2025, generating US$6.1 billion in revenue, an 11.5 per cent increase over the previous year, according to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
The Council disclosed that total export volume rose to 8.02 million metric tonnes, with 281 different products shipped to 120 countries, underscoring the growing depth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s non-oil trade portfolio.
Key export destinations in 2025 included the Netherlands, Brazil and India, reflecting expanding market access across Europe, South America and Asia. Leading export earners were cocoa, urea fertilizer, cashew nuts, sesame seed and solid minerals, highlighting the increasing contribution of agriculture, agro-processing and extractive industries outside crude oil.
NEPC attributed the record-breaking performance to sustained policy support aimed at economic diversification, improved trade facilitation and increased private-sector participation. The Council noted that reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda have helped strengthen non-oil value chains, enhance export quality, and position Nigerian products more competitively in the global market.
Industry analysts say the figures signal growing resilience in Nigeria’s export sector, with non-oil trade increasingly providing foreign exchange earnings, supporting job creation, and reducing the economy’s historic dependence on crude oil revenues.
With rising volumes, broader product range and wider global reach, the 2025 export results are being viewed as a major milestone in Nigeria’s push toward a more diversified, sustainable and globally integrated economy.
