The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to build a more resilient national security architecture through enhanced collaboration between the Ministries of Interior and Defence, as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
At a high-level engagement between both ministries, national security was described as a tripod anchored on intelligence, internal security, and defence, with strong emphasis placed on synergy rather than rivalry among security agencies. Officials stressed that inter-agency competition weakens national response capacity and must give way to cooperation, trust, and shared objectives.
The meeting underscored the urgent need to strengthen border security and safeguard critical national assets, warning that attacks on key infrastructure amount to economic terrorism capable of undermining national stability and development.
In response to emerging threats that increasingly blur the lines between internal and external security, both ministries agreed to deepen operational synergy through improved intelligence sharing, integrated data management, and coordinated strategic planning.
As part of concrete steps to sustain this partnership, an inter-ministerial technical committee is to be activated to drive implementation of agreed measures and ensure seamless coordination between relevant agencies.
The renewed collaboration, officials noted, reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to proactive security management, institutional cooperation, and the protection of lives, assets, and national interests—ultimately aimed at guaranteeing a safer and more secure Nigeria.
