The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee on Digital Literacy and Emerging Skills as part of renewed efforts to fast-track Nigeria’s digital transformation and equip citizens with future-ready competencies.
The committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, who was represented at the event by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Digital Transformation Agenda, and the National Digital Economy Policy.
According to the government, the committee will implement key resolutions reached at the National Conference on Digital Literacy and Emerging Skills, with a bold national target of achieving 95 per cent digital literacy by 2030.
The multi-stakeholder committee is composed of relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), alongside private sector and development partners, to ensure effective coordination, accountability and measurable outcomes.
Its mandate includes the organisation of the National Digital Literacy Conference scheduled for 28–29 January 2026, as well as the nationwide training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging skills.
Officials say the programme will place strong emphasis on youth empowerment, innovation, and economic competitiveness, positioning Nigeria to thrive in the rapidly evolving global digital economy.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive digital access, noting that the initiative will help bridge skills gaps, expand employment opportunities, and strengthen Nigeria’s human capital base in line with global best practices.
