The Federal Government has stepped up construction activities on the 17.34-kilometre Unguwan Iliya Bagudu–Kwantakaran Tsiga–Bakori Road in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, reaffirming its commitment to rural connectivity and inclusive infrastructure development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The project, being executed under the supervision of the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, features the construction of three strategic bridges alongside the roadway, aimed at easing transportation challenges, enhancing safety, and ensuring year-round access for residents of Kafur and adjoining communities.
Officials say the road is designed to significantly improve rural–urban connectivity, facilitate the smooth movement of agricultural produce and other goods, and stimulate local commerce across the axis. Once completed, the infrastructure is expected to reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and unlock fresh socio-economic opportunities for farmers, traders and small businesses in the area.
The Unguwan Iliya–Bakori corridor is considered vital to Katsina’s local economy, linking agrarian communities to major markets and service centres. Its upgrade is projected to strengthen regional integration and contribute to food supply chains within and beyond the state.
The Federal Government reiterated that the project reflects its resolve to deliver durable, high-quality road infrastructure that supports economic growth, social inclusion and national integration, particularly in underserved rural areas.
Residents and community leaders have welcomed the accelerated pace of work, expressing optimism that the road will transform livelihoods, attract investment and deepen development across Kafur LGA and neighbouring communities in Katsina State.
