June 12, 2025 | Abuja, Nigeria — In an appreciation mood while fielding questions from newsmen at the National Assembly recently, Honourable Princess Chinwe Clara Nnabuife has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for formally honouring Professor Humphrey Nwosu, the former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

The commendation came on the heels of conferment of national honour on Prof. Nwosu by President Tinubu in commemoration of June 12, Democracy Day in Nigeria.

Hon. Chinwe Nnabuife affirmed that the national honour marked a recognition of Nwosu’s pivotal contributions to Nigeria’s democracy as a titan of electoral integrity.

Princess Nnabuife described the honour as symbolic and transformative, noting that in celebrating Prof. Nwosu during his lifetime, the nation is reaffirming the core values of fairness, accountability, and transparency that define democracy in Nigeria.

Prof. Nwosu, best known for his role during the June 12 election, implemented the revolutionary Option A4 ballot system—an open, transparent method of voting that dramatically reduced fraud and became a hallmark of credible elections in West Africa.

His courageous stand came despite pressure from the military regime, affirming his integrity and commitment to justice.

By recognising him now, Princess Nnabuife, who represents Prof. Nwosu’s town of Ajali in Orumba North, averred that the award is deserving.

The Rep believes that by the honour, Tinubu’s administration has sent a strong signal of resolve to safeguard democratic values.

Princess Nnabuife hopes that Prof. Nwosu’s legacy will serve as a lasting beacon for future generations of Nigerians.
